The long-haired tortoiseshell slid gracefully out of the nursery, purring at the cold that attacked her. As a FrostClan cat, Sweetfur didn't fear nor really dislike the cold... That may not be the feeling her Clanmates get in the cold, but she figures that if they are alive and fine with living in FrostClan, then they must not mind the cold that much.
She shook her pelt every little bit to get off the snow that had fallen upon it. Her green eyes slowly looked around the camp and she wrapped her tail around her paws. "Any cat in camp?" Sweetfur called out. I wonder what time it is.. Sweetfur looked up but couldn't pinpoint the sun's location with the clouds and falling snow in the way.

Skystar padded out of her den, a small cave just under the edge of the cliff where FrostClan's camp was located. An involuntary shiver slid down her spine as the cold bit at her skin and made her question her reason for coming out. But Skystar was nothing if not sociable, and she had to remain in good spirits with her clanmates. She easily walked up the short pathway that led to the rest of the camp, feeling small in comparison to the towering mountain peeks and large rocks.
The dark ginger she-cat paused as Sweetfur's voice drifted into her ears, and a small grin drifted onto her face. She trotted over to the queen, kicking up snow as she went. "Hello Sweetfur. Enjoying the weather?" She asked pleasantly, shaking her pelt from nose to tail-tip to rid her fur of the wet snow.

She figured it probably held a hint of sarcasm within, but Sweetfur answered it as if real, "Honestly, yes, I am! I love the snow~ It's fun to play with the kits in, but you've got to make sure they're not in for too long and..." She went on for a moment longer before stopping, realizing that Skystar probably wouldn't care as she wasn't a queen. Sweetfur cleared her throat, "How about yourself, Skystar?"
Sweetfur flinched in pain as a snowflake, pushed by a strong wind, flew into her eye. She blinked her green eyes a few times before squinting a bit so as to try to prevent it from happening again. Sweetfur's long tail flicked contentedly, "How's the cold for you? I mean, your pelt is thin, Skystar." The last thing the kind queen wanted to do was offend the other she-cat of FrostClan and she hoped that Skystar wouldn't take it as rude.

Skystar fought back a yawn, pasting an interested look on her face as the she-cat talked about kits. The ginger leader was often easily distracted and entertained herself by counting the snowflakes. She hoped the hunting patrol camp back with a fairly large load of prey. The snow was starting to fall harder and faster, and a blizzard could be in the near future. If that was true, all cats would have to move into the large cave on the face of the mountain where the cats sheltered during snow storms.
She was snapped out of her thoughts by her clanmate's question. "Ah, I'm perfectly fine. Thank you for your concern," The ginger she-cat mewed pleasantly enough. However, there was a sharp glint to her blue eyes and her tail twitched. She didn't like it when cats pointed out differences between herself and true blooded FrostClan cats. But she knew Sweetfur didn't mean anything by it. If it was one of her more ill-intentioned clanmates, they might of lost a chunk of fur. "What do you think of the weather? Seems like a blizzard could be coming our way," she mewed, waving her tail towards the thick clouds and having to raise her voice above the winds.

Sweetfur's long fur began to rise a slight bit as it took the leader a bit of time to answer, and she hoped that Skystar didn't think her to just be babbling on. Just go back to your usual, quiet self, Sweetfur... She told herself, feeling a bit sad, though she tried her best not to show it. Just know that it's rare for cats to care about one who isn't themselves.. She thought, holding back a gulp of nervousness. I try to be one of the cats who care about others.
When Skystar did answer, Sweetfur relaxed again and her fur settled down. She dipped her head, feeling happiness flow through her as she was thanked for her concern. Sweetfur looked around at Skystar's question. She concentrated on the weather and what she figured; the winds were strong and the snow was becoming more and more apparent and what was only a couple of whiskers' lengths of snow was growing- almost at a tail length!
After her observation, Sweetfur finally nodded, "Yes, it seems like something that's definitely possible soon." The queen agreed, looking at Skystar once again.

"Mmhm," Skystar hummed in reply, glancing around at the thick snow. The cat may of been just a queen, but secretly Skystar trusted the other she-cat's opinion. In a clan like this it was rare to find trustworthy cats, and she was careful about who she kept as a soldier and who she kept as an ally.
"When the patrols come back, we may have to start preparations for moving to the blizzard cave. I trust you'll get all the queens and kits there safely, yes?" She asked cheerfully enough. The fiery leader was known for her seemingly random mood change and random cheeky comments and could quite often give her clanmates whiplash.

Sweetfur wondered went through Skystar's mind, but shrugged, knowing it was none of her business. Her thoughts began to wander a bit, I wonder what tom in this Clan will be my mate... I hate to have standards, but there's no way I'm taking a tom who's arrogant and ambitious... I want a kind tom that I love right off. She decided. Then I can give many kits to FrostClan! They'll grow up, be good hunters, have their own kits.. She purposely ignored 'be good in battle' because the last thing that Sweetfur ever wanted was for her kits to go to battle. Of course, she knew that if they lived to be apprentices, then they'd have to go to battle sometime. It was worry. She wanted her kits to be strong so they could defend their Clan, but Sweetfur had always had a hard time with battles- they scared her as she knew that lives were often lost and the last thing the she-cat wanted was to lose more kin to a battle. I've already lost my parents... That was bad enough without needing to lose my own kits, too... She thought.
Even if forced to battle for whatever reason, Sweetfur would always put her Clanmates first. She nodded and her eyes suddenly blazed with protectiveness, "Of course!" She meowed fiercely, "Anything to make sure no FrostClan cat gets hurt!"

"Good," Skystar purred, surprised but approving of the queen's fierce nature when it came to protecting her clanmates. The young leader really hadn't had time to think about having a mate or kits, so she couldn't understand the she-cat's desire to purely raise them. Her focus had been on becoming leader, earning her clanmate's acceptance, and now it was to defend and protect her clan. Her whole life had passed by in a blur as she chased her dreams, always busy, always moving forward, always reaching for something more. Now that she had reached the top, she was finding herself missing something that she couldn't place more and more.

Sweetfur nodded, then let out a mrrow of laughter, "Sorry... I know it's probably shocking that I'd be so fierce about that... It's just.." She choked up a bit, her eyes filling with water. Sweetfur had to gulp to get rid of it, but failed a bit. "When Morningclaw and I were apprentices, a bad battle-" What was she thinking? Skystar's older than her by several moons! Of course she'd been there. Sweetfur shook herself, "When our parents died.. I grew rather... Determined to defend my Clanmates." Sweetfur finished. She was used to telling kits and such stories, and often forgotten whether or not the cat she was talking to had been there....
Or, maybe it was something else this time... Maybe her father being like most FrostClan cats and hating outsiders had in the smallest way been passed on to Sweetfur... Probably her sister, too. No... That can't be right! Sweetfur denied, Skystar's my friend and cats are cats- Clanborn or not! The she-cat felt miserable with guilt, forcing herself to think that it couldn't possibly be the reason. I just forgot I was talking to a cat who was there. That's right.. Sweetfur told herself comforting. I forgot that Skystar's older than me.. "I feel like such an elder sometimes!" Sweetfur joked, "I'm so used to telling kits stories that I forget who I'm talking to sometimes, sorry."

Skystar's ear twitched in surprise and confusion. I was there mouse-brain! she thought in surprise, eyes narrowing slightly at the queen. Her fur bristled ever so slightly, hardly noticeably especially since it was already fluffed up against the cold. Sometimes, it felt like her clanmates hadn't even noticed her before she decided in a blind rush of foolish bravery to defend that kit from the lone wolf and lose her tail. Well, she was never going to be forgotten or go unnoticed again. She wasn't that cat.
The ginger she-cat visibly relaxed at Sweetfur's comment, although there was still a spark of fire in her eyes. "Oh, yes, that was one of my first real battles as a warrior..." She distinctly remembered the change in the younger, previously carefree cat. "Death does have a way of changing us..." she mewed, resting her tail lightly on the other cat's shoulder. "You... would of made them proud, Sweetfur.." she murmured, a bit uncomfortable but feeling that it needed to be said all the same.

Sweetfur purred, "Thank you, Skystar. It's easier when I know that they're watching Morningclaw and us. I'm not sure about our father as much as I am our mother. She was a wonderful warrior, and she cared about us more than anything." She closed her eyes as she remembered her mother- a long-haired tortoiseshell like herself. Morninglcaw took after their father pelt-wise, however. "Just like me... Do you remember her? When we were born?" She asked nostalgically, not really registering what she was saying. Sweetfur opened her eyes again and shook her pelt, trying to be careful not to get snow all of Skystar. "Sorry," Sweetfur said in case snow had reached Skystar.

Skystar closed her eyes, not only so that she didn't get hit by the snow but also as she tried to picture the she-cat's parents. She wasn't going to tell the warrior that she hated her Father, hated the way he looked at her, the way he talked to her. She inwardly growled. But she couldn't forget the tortoiseshell she-cat that raised the cat beside her. "I remember her well. She was one of the few cats who actually encouraged me. And I remember how proud she was of you and your sister."

Sweetfur purred, "I love my mother. I'm glad that she was liked within the Clan." My father, however.. She thought bitterly, then shook her pelt to be rid of the snow and the thought. "How about a hunt? I haven't gotten out of the camp in a few days..."

Skystar stretched and shook her short ginger fur of snow. "Sure. We need as much prey as possible if we have a blizzard coming soon," she mewed and narrowed her eyes at the falling snow. She began leading the way down the sharp slope out of camp, careful not to slip.

Sweetfur nodded and follower her leader, happy that her pelt was long so at least some of the snow didn't bother her that much. Wonder what we'll catch.. The queen thought, looking up at the sky as she padded forward.
